In 1956, Nick Stark borrowed money to purchase sheet metal equipment for his one man operation. Currently, Starks Plumbing and Heating employs more than 85 staff and has over 70 public service units.
In 1980, Nick’s son Albert joined Starks Plumbing & Heating and became partner in 1985.
Serval years later, Starks relocated to the Air Cooled Engines Building. This provided approximately 3000 sq. ft of shop and office space. In 1994, Starks Plumbing once again relocated to the south west Light Industrial Area and renovated the old Co-op Service Centre building, expanding their floor space to 12,000 sq. ft. In 2000, this space was further expanded to 16,000 sq. ft. In 2004, a new 15,000 sq. ft. building was erected in Redcliff to house the deep utility division.
In 1967, Starks Plumbing opened in Medicine Hat and shared a small space on South Railway St. with Ted’s Auto Body.
Starks Plumbing Heating & Electrical was not always known by this. Its first name was Stark Sheet Metal as Nick started out as a sheet metal mechanic in the early 1960’s. Soon he expanded his business to include plumbing, electrical in 1991, refrigeration in 1996, and deep utilities in 1999.
In 2001, Starks Plumbing & Heating was awarded The Small Business of the Year from the Medicine Hat Chamber of Commerce.
In 1997, Nick Stark received the Life Time Achievement Award from the Chamber of Commerce for his dedication to the community and his business.
In 1995, Lennox Industries presented Starks Plumbing with the 1995 Centurion Plaque in recognition of outstanding performance.
